Hong Kong-based app Say Hi, seems to hold a lot of potential as a new mobile dating app that caters to the new generation. It combines several features of other dating apps such as MeetMe's nearby user location map, Blued's Groups, and Chatroulette's random video chats.

However, the app’s user reviews are conflicting. Some commend the app for its wide array of features, yet some reiterate that it is a scam for advertising that the app’s features are entirely free to use.

List - a linear directory of users wherein you can see their profile picture, name, gender, headline, time of last activity, and how many miles you are from them

‘Waterfall’ - shows only the profile photos of the users that is similar to how a waterfall looks like

Location map - maps where the current locations of the members are plotted on the actual map of your city

There is likewise a small photo gallery if that member uploaded another photo beside his or her avatar.

    On some profiles, you may see a fire icon, which represents being a popular member. This particular icon can come and go, and it depends on how many other users message that member on that day.

    Say Hi has four different payment plans to offer. If you get a VIP or a Super VIP membership, you get unlimited access to all the features of the dating app. This includes sending unlimited messages to all members, removing advertisements, and being a priority in other members’ inboxes.

    However, you can also choose not to avail a VIP membership as it is a tad expensive, and instead get either a Messaging monthly plan or buy points. Messaging plans allow you to send messages to popular users, while points allow you more freedom on where you want to spend them. For instance, if you're going to chat with a popular member, you need to give 10 points, and you will be able to do so but just for an hour.

    You can earn free points if you do some tasks listed by Say Hi. You can find the tasks on the Store tab.

    Special Features

    Aside from the contacting features that Say Hi offers its members, they also have several other distinctive features. These are represented by colorful motion graphics and can be found on the ‘Explore’ tab of the app. 

    When you click most of the graphics, there will be a pop-up notification saying that you need to download a plugin. When you click ‘Yes’, it would take you to your App Store, where you can continue the installation.

    Once you’ve downloaded the plugin, you can access all the apps in one-click through the ‘Explore’ tab. You only need to download one plugin to use all the special features.

    Random Video Chat

    This is similar to a video chat roulette, wherein you will be matched randomly with another user who is also using the video chat. You get five seconds to leave the app before the random video chat begins.

    Random Voice Chat

    This feature matches you with another member for a random voice chat. Similar to the Random Video Chat, you may also leave the app five seconds before the conversation begins.

    HQ Trivia Online

    HQ Trivia Online is a game feature wherein you will be matched randomly with another user who is also playing the game. You will be quizzed and the user who gets the most points wins. This feature makes use of your video camera, and there is no way to turn it off.

    Match History

    Match History simply lists all the users who you’ve matched with randomly by using the three features above. This helps you connect with them again.

    Shake Shake

    Shake Shake requires an additional download. This feature matches you with a random SayHi member to chat with whenever you shake your phone.

    BBS

    This feature also requires an additional download. This feature is similar to a discussion forum wherein you can post conversation starters or reply to posts made by other members.

    Who Checked Me Out

    This feature lists all the members who have visited your profile. It allows you to connect with them in just a click quickly.

    I’m a Superstar

    ‘I’m a Superstar’ is a VIP feature. Being a Superstar puts your profile on the featured members' board.

    Chatroom

    The Chatroom is where you can join random live discussions of currently active members. This is free for all members. However, not many use this particular feature of SayHi.

    Emoji

    Emojis are graphics that you can send to other users. Some emojis require additional downloads, but some are already ready to be sent.

    Themes

    Themes are skins you can use for your app to foster personalisation. Most themes need to be downloaded.
