Anyone who wants to join RussianCupid will have a very quick and convenient process. You only need to fill three fields and two tick boxes with your information, and you have a RussianCupid account. Once you're in the site, you are encouraged to upload a photo, but this is not a requirement. According to RussianCupid, uploading a photo gets you 10 times more attention, and although we can't vouch for this exact figure, we do agree that profiles with photos gain more interest from users.

You can upload a photo straight from your computer or import them from Facebook. RussianCupid promises that they will never post on your behalf. If you can't upload photos through these options, there are four alternatives. There's a QR code which can be scanned through a code scanner app. Once processed, this releases instructions on how you can upload your photo to RussianCupid. You can also upload through your mobile browser, you can send your photo to their email at photos@russiancupid.com, or you can send an actual printed photo to their PO box:

Just remember to include your full name and member number on the back of each photo. Even something as simple as an email verification isn't done on the site. However, don't let this discourage you as an apparent lack of authentication and safety. On the contrary, RussianCupid is very quick to suspend accounts that display suspicious behaviour.

You can send messages to any of the members via their profile. The button is located at the very bottom of the page, right beside the "Send Interest" button. If you're a non-paying member, you can still send a message to a fellow non-paying member, but it will be locked. This means that they cannot read the message unless you or they upgrade to a premium membership. If you're a non-paying member and you send a message to a paying member, communication will be seamless. Sending an interest gives that user a notification that their profile has grabbed your attention. This could pique their curiosity. In the best case scenario, they would happen to be a paying member and they would be interested in you too.

On the pop-up where you send the message, there's an interesting note at the very bottom that reads: "New York law requires the following statement - RUSSIANCUPID.COM DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS." So you would need to take extra precautions when chatting with other users on RussianCupid. You can choose the subject of your message from a list of drop-down options. These subjects have all been pre-made by RussianCupid and cannot be edited, such as:

• Love at first sight
• I like your profile
• Want to chat?
• We are a perfect match
• Please accept my contact
• Seeking marriage
• I'm interested in you
• Hi, there!

Even though it is not a matchmaking website, RussianCupid offers surprisingly detailed profiles. Everyone, regardless of their subscription, can view display photos for free. The photos within a user's gallery are also available for everyone. There is a short phrase which is chosen by the user themselves, and it can be anything under the sun (a quote, lyrics, a self-description, etc). Below the general items, there is a field for a long blurb which you can use to describe who you are and who you're looking for on the website. 

Below all of these is the most useful section of the profiles in RussianCupid. There is a three-column table. The first column states characteristics like appearance, lifestyle, background/cultural values, hobbies & interests, and more. The second column states their specific characteristics. If these characteristics match your criteria, there is a green dot on the right of the field. The third column has it the other way around. It shows your characteristics and if you match their criteria, there is a green dot on the right. It is helpful in showing how compatible you are with someone because at a glance, the more green there is, the more compatible you two are.
