Signing up at Lov is as breezy as can be with its one-form registration process located right at the homepage. The first step is to make sure you are at least 18 years of age. Select your gender (male or female) and preference (male, female, or couple) for match suggestions.

You will also need to select your age; you can be as young as 18 and as old as a hundred to join in the fun. Your address, which is the basis for your matches, is geotagged depending on your IP address. If it is inaccurate, you can manually input your location for apt suggestions.

Providing your email address, preferred username, and nominated password comes next. After clicking “Sign up,” you’ll move on to the next step.

Unlike other adult dating sites, Lov doesn’t require you to verify your email address. Sure, there’s a pop-up prompt that will remind you to check, but there are no clear implications if you choose otherwise.

Regardless if you are verified or not, the next step is to complete your Lov profile. It doesn’t ask much: upload a primary photo if you wish (again, it’s not mandatory), select the right birthdate, double-check your location, and write a little something to describe who you are in the “About Me” section.

To complete your registration, tick the boxes stating your agreement to the site’s Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions. A third box will ask you if you’re amenable to joining the Icebreaker system. Note, however, that the said service is a premium. Before you can use it, you will need to upgrade to a monthly or quarterly subscription first.

Lov repeatedly states in their Terms and Conditions that they do not check the profiles of their members. This protocol screams red flag because catfishers and scammers can easily access the website. With the member’s safety in mind, Lov ultimately decided to reserve most of its communication features for paying users only.

In terms of functionality, nothing’s new; Lov encourages you to use your words and interact to get that match.

• Pinboard

Lov’s version of the famed “Favourites List,” pin an engaging member’s profile on your pinboard, so you don’t lose their name after browsing. Pinboard is free, so go on and pin as many as you can.

• Match

This directory-like feature lists down the profiles of all members who matched your criteria. Technically, there isn’t much in terms of standards. 

The matches included are either single males or females or a couple, depending on your preference upon registration. Apart from that, matches are also decided depending on location. The nearer they are, the higher the rank. As with the Pinboard, you can use the Match tab for free.

• Icebreakers

Icebreakers is a premium feature that aims to introduce members to each other, even if they’re offline.  Mostly computer-generated or customised by Lov’s team; Icebreakers are not only limited to messages—these can be actions, too. 

Once you allow the site to send or do Icebreakers on your behalf, they will help you interact with potential matches. And don’t worry, the receiver will know you’re using an Icebreaker. Your profile will include a statement reading “I use Icebreaker to connect with other people” to indicate that Lov may be the one doing the sending and commenting.

The feature is just that—breaking the ice. Ultimately, it’s your charm and wits that will land you the date.

• Chat

Seriously, what dating site won’t allow a person-to-person interaction? At Lov, not only can you send words, but you can also customise with emojis and even share photos for a livelier conversation. Opening, sending, and responding to chats are for premium users only; thus, you can somehow feel secure in knowing that you’re interacting with someone real.

If you wanted to have some action while at Lov, it seems like remaining a standard account holder is disadvantageous. To freely interact, you’ll have to subscribe to a premium account.

Compared to other adult dating sites, you can say that profiles at Lov are lacking. 

For starters, the details you’ll only read are a member’s username, location, and “About Me” entry, that is if they provided any. Apart from that, you can also see primary photos or additional uploaded images in its full-sized glory. These are all the details you can use to make out what the person is like once you interact.

But then again, Lov is mostly for short-time even one-time things—do you need an exhaustive summary of what he or she will be? Knowing their locations in a flash and seeing their pictures in whole is enough to find out if you’re attracted to them or not.

However, we did have some beef with the authenticity of some of the profiles we found at Lov. The team opened they won’t be checking profiles, it’s up to the users to discern potential matches with a skilled eye.

Fortunately, you don’t need much to do so—bogus accounts are easy to spot. For instance, these suspicious accounts used photos lifted from pictorials, online shops, and even porn sites. How did we know? Uploaders didn’t even bother to remove watermarks and other branding details like the site’s logo. Fake accounts didn’t have an “About Me” section written as well; it’s an empty profile, photo, name, and location are all it got.

The silver lining is that you have full access to a member’s profile. You can view photos in full and watch out for telltale signs that the image is fake. Not only that—you can also spot who the real ones are.

You can interact with members by commenting on their photos. We noticed that real accounts upload more than one photo, take the time to reply to comments, and even write out more than two sentences in the “About Me” section. In short, you’ll know they’re real because they made an effort to customise their profiles.
