Chatzy aims to be an alternative to other social networking sites and messaging apps like Facebook and Skype. It has a quick registration process that makes it easy for anyone to create an account. It doesn't ask for any personal information. All you have to do is provide a working email address and you can already start conversing anonymously with strangers.
The site has thousands of chat rooms to choose from, with different topics of interests. All of them are created by the members. You can try and search for a chat room that talks about a subject you have in mind, and from there, you can find and meet new friends.
However, we can't help but notice that Chatzy seems to be a little too user-friendly. This is because it allows non-members to join any chat room if they wish to. We don't want to think about it, but this makes it quite accessible even to those who do not have the purest intentions.
That being said, is Chatzy a safe chat place you can trust? Or is it just one of those that lack credibility when it comes to security?
Sign Up Process
Basic registration process
Email verification only
You can sign up via Facebook
No personal information needed
Signing up is free
Signing up to Chatzy is quick and easy. With only a valid email address, you can already enjoy most of the site's features. You can also opt to sign up using your Facebook, Google+, Microsoft, or LinkedIn account.
Creating an account will not take more than five minutes of your time. In fact, signing up is not really that necessary. Non-members can still join public chat rooms and send private messages to other people. They can even join private chats if they are invited by the room administrator via email.
Nonetheless, people are still encouraged to be a member of the site. Signing up allows you to enjoy features that are only available for registered accounts. The registration process is user-friendly, making it easy for people of any age to create an account. Take note that there are no personal information or personality test included in the process.
It is not surprising that Chatzy does not have a profile page. Most chat providers are not that concerned with identity legitimacy.
No basic or personal information from members is made public to the community. This allows you to join chat rooms in total anonymity.
If there is a page that we can call your profile page in Chatzy, it only contains your settings and preferences. On this page, you can choose how people can identify you. You may also customise your page's skin (web interface). You can find here all other important account and site setups and the usage statistics of the page, including a report of how many chatrooms you have already created and entered.
Members need not upload a photo so there's no chance of you getting to know what your chatmates look like. The best way to probably know someone personally is to give him/her your contact information through a private message. Yet, be careful when doing so. Online dating safety should still be your priority.
Sending private messages is free for chat room members
Sending messages in the chatroom is free for those who are allowed by moderators
Chatrooms you enter are automatically saved in your "My Rooms" list
Looking for people who like the TV shows you watch? Do you want to talk about a certain hobby you enjoy? Or maybe you've had a weird kink you want to share with someone? In Chatzy, you can look for chat rooms that discuss specific topics and there is a chatroom for almost anything you can think of!
By going to the "Find More Rooms" tab and typing in the topic you are interested in, you can start searching for people who you can chat and share your stories with. There are no limitations to what kind of room you may look for but you might want to be as precise as possible.
Not only does the site allows you to join an existing chat room, but it also allows you to create and personalise one for yourself.
The site is free for everyone to use. Both the site members and non-members can enjoy sending private and public messages. However, there are certain chatrooms that do not allow newbies to join the community interaction right away. If this happens, you can message a room moderator to give you permission to be a part of the conversation.
If you want to save the rooms you visit, register an account to Chatzy so you can unlock the feature that allows you to keep a list of people you want to contact. With that, you can easily return to the chat rooms that you have previously entered.
Chatzy sure knows how to make chat rooms more lively. Most of its special features are focused on making your chat room experience fun and exciting. It also has useful features that could help administrators and moderators run their chatrooms smoothly. The following are the list of special features you can enjoy:
When you visit a room in Chatzy, you will have an option to add a 'Visitor Status.' This is a personal message that is shown on the visitor pane. You can change your status by hovering over your icon on the visitor pane or by typing in these commands:
/status <message> This updates your online status.
/away <message> This marks you away and allows you to customise an away message and inform people what you are doing or when will you be back.
/leave <message> This makes you exit the chatroom and at the same time leave a message to everyone, so they'll know that you're not around.
Chatzy allows you to send private messages to other members that no one else can see, not even the room administrator. To send a private message, you can either click the visitor's name on the visitor panel or type in the /pm [name] [message] code in the chat.
Locally Saved Messages
This is the list of all the private messages you have received from all the rooms you have joined. They can be viewed under "My Messages." These messages are only locally stored in your browser.
Global messages are like private messages. The difference between the two is that global messages are sent to all the room members. Only room administrators and moderators can send global messages by default. If you are the room administrator, you can change your room settings if you want to allow everyone to be able to send global messages.
The 'Room Board' is the small text you see on the upper part of the chat room. This can be a moving text or a highlighted text that contains a message or a room rules reminder. You can change the room board settings as often as you want if you have a premium room.
With this feature, you can follow a conversation silently or create a chat without triggering any system messages. Only room administrators and moderators can use this feature.
Closing the Chat Temporarily
Room administrators and moderators have the right to close a chat when they are away or offline. This is done for security purposes. If you want to change your room's availability, type /close on the chat prompt to close, and type /open to open it back.
You can choose to silence a newbie in your room. Newbies are those who entered your room for the first time without an invitation. Only premium rooms can automatically silence newbies. You can also choose to silence unregistered users, registered users who only has been a member for less than 24 hours, and all new members in general.
This feature allows you to ignore a certain person in the room. By ignoring a visitor, you will not be able to see new posts or private messages from that person.
Mobile site has a similar user interface with the desktop version
Desktop features are also available on the mobile version
Has an easier chat function
Chatzy has not yet released an app version of the site, which can be a turn-off for people especially when the site openly advertises itself as an alternative for Facebook or Skype. However, the site has a pretty good mobile version and has a screen option where you can edit your screen settings. When you're using the mobile app, do take note that you will not be able to zoom in or zoom out of the site's page.
The mobile site's interface is pretty similar to the desktop version. It is basic and old which kind of brings you back to when dial-up connections were still in. Despite its prehistoric interface, the mobile site is pretty functional. It offers an easier chat experience compared to the desktop version. The pages have also adjusted pretty well on the mobile screen except for the "My Rooms" page where you have to scroll sideways to see the full chatroom details.
Another good thing about the mobile version is that it is also customisable. That means you can change the skin according to your preference. The app allows you to change your background colour or image, default font style, and many more.
I have used Chatzy a few years back to create a live chat for my blog where I used to interact with my readers. But I wasn't able to maintain my blog and the chatroom I created eventually died. Just recently I decided to check and see if the site still works (or exists lol). And to my surprise, not only does it still work, but the site also looked like it didn't have a single upgrade since the last time I used it. From the site's interface down to its functions, everything was the same. I actually don't know what to feel about that. Chatzy is still good, but I just don't get why the site didn't try to improve its interface. Despite that, the site still has a lot of public chat rooms available for everyone. It's just a struggle to find which rooms are active and which ones are dead. I hope they try and update the site, or maybe add a few more features to make it more interesting. - Jason (25)
There are two different premium plans for Chatzy: User Premium, and the Room Premium. Choosing a subscription will depend on the privileges that you want to have. If you are concentrating more on the features that you want to experience as a user, then you should go for the User premium option. But if you want advanced features for a room that you are managing, then go for the room premium option. You can also choose to subscribe to both plans if you want to.
The pricing options for the premium upgrades are not that pricey. Each premium subscription offers different commitment types that would fit everyone's preference. Upgrading to premium is not compulsory, but this will give your account access to more features.
Chatzy is a free online platform that allows people to create and join chatrooms for group discussions. The rooms can either be public or private, depending on the people's needs.
The site seems to fail in coping up with modern technology and is struggling to keep people interested to the site. Yes, it has thousands of public rooms that both members and non-members can enjoy, but most of them are dead with little to no activity at all.
All in all, the site continues to be functional and true to the promised features and services that it offers. Even though it is not an ideal place to look for love, it is quite a good place where you can find people to talk to. However, if you're not into casual conversations, then this is probably not the site for you. You can check out our Dating Apps category where you'll find more selections that are fit for finding relationships.
